No 4 Women's Basketball Hosts In-State Rival Murray State on Friday
November 22, 2017 | Women's Basketball
The Cardinals and Racers will tip off at 1 p.m. ET.
With the successful tournament run, the Cards have opened the season with a 5-0 record, including three wins over AP top 25 teams. With the strong start, their AP ranking has jumped from No. 9 to No. 4, while they have risen from No. 10 to No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll.Â
Their No. 4 ranking in the AP is the highest the Cards have been since they were No. 4 at the same time last year. Following a loss to South Carolina, they fell to No. 7 and failed to get back into the top five. They have not been higher than No. 4 since they were ranked No. 3 on March 10, 2014. No. 3 is the highest Louisville has ever been in the AP poll.
After being named WNIT MVP, senior Myisha Hines-Allen was honored as ACC Player of the Week. It marks the sixth time in her career that she has received this honor. She finished the week with double-doubles against Toledo and Oregon, giving her three on the season and 32 for her career, just one away from tying her for second all-time in program history.
She averaged 17.7 points and 10.0 rebounds, while shooting 61 percent from the floor, in wins over Toledo, No. 24 Michigan and No. 10 Oregon.
Not to be outdone, junior guard Asia Durr was named the first espnW Player of the Week of the season. Through the first five games, she leads the team in scoring with 21.6 points per game and is shooting 50 percent from three-point range.Â
With at least one 3-pointer in all five games to start the season, she has extended her streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer to a school-record 44 games.
Last season, Murray State finished the season with a 15-14 overall record and 7-9 in OVC play.
Under new head coach Rechelle Turner, they have opened the season with a 1-3 record. Their lone win was a 98-87 victory over Northern Kentucky on Nov. 18. On Tuesday, they lost a close one at Lipscomb, 65-64.
Senior guard Ke'Shunan Jones leads the way for the Racers in almost every statistical category with 26.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.8 steals. She had 30 points and 13 rebounds against Evansville and 37 points, nine assists, including 10 turnovers, against Northern Kentucky.
