Many fans got their first look at this year’s team at the annual tip-off luncheon on Monday afternoon.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – As the University of Louisville women's basketball season inches closer, many fans got their first look at this year's team at the annual tip-off luncheon on Monday afternoon.
The luncheon opened with a highlight video that excited the sold-out crowd and then the well-known voice of the Cardinals Sean Moth introduced the 2017-18 version of the Louisville women's basketball team.
Following a three-course meal, Moth held a question-and-answer session with junior Asia Durr and senior Myisha Hines-Allen.
"The hard work in the preseason has paid off and everyone is just so excited for this year. I can't wait to get started," said Durr to the crowd.
"You're going to make me cry," said Hines-Allen after asked about her feelings on entering her senior season. "I can't believe I'm a senior, it goes by so fast. You hear it all the time, 'it's all going to go by so fast', but it really does."
Head coach Jeff Walz then stepped to the podium to thank the crowd, offer fans insight on this year's team and discuss the challenging schedule.
"Look around at what a remarkable crowd we have here again, supporting these young women," said Walz. "It has been an interesting few weeks, but these women have stayed focused, taking care of business in the classroom, and working extremely hard on the basketball court."
Walz closed by asking the crowd to come out and support the Cardinals when they open the season against Southeast Missouri on Friday, Nov. 10 in the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament.
The Cardinals went 29-8 overall and 12-4 in ACC play in 2016-17. They are coming off their seventh NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in school history, all under the guidance of Walz.
Last week, the Cards were picked second in both Atlantic Coast Conference preseason polls, while Durr was named ACC Preseason Player of the Year and Hines-Allen earned Preseason All-ACC honors.
