UofL Athletics, raiseRED Partner to Raise Money, Awareness for Pediatric Cancer Research
October 13, 2017 | General
The raiseRED Dance Marathon is scheduled from Feb. 23-24.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville athletics department is partnering with raiseRED, a student-run organization, for the second-consecutive year to raise money and increase awareness for pediatric cancer research.
Louisville athletics is donating a portion of its student ticket sales to raiseRED's Dance Marathon, the group's annual pinnacle celebration. Additionally, the two collaborated and chose 1-2 contests to serve as themed 'Student Nights,' also aimed at benefiting the event, with each of the participating sports: volleyball, men's and women's soccer, field hockey, and men's and women's basketball.
Each 'Student Night' – focused on raising money and awareness – has a different theme for students to dress up and participate along with in-game recognitions, awareness tables, and a special halftime show to highlight the marathon.
The fundraising effort concludes with an 18-hour Dance Marathon from Feb. 23-24. Hundreds of students attended the celebration last year, and 1,000 students combined to raise more than $450,000 for 2016-17.
Those unable to attend one of the sporting events or the dance marathon can still contribute: text to pledge (FTK18 to 41444), use promo code ULRAISE with your order at PapaJohns.com, or visit raisered.org/donate.
raiseRED is the only student-run organization to support the clinical and medical research efforts as well as being the largest student-run organization at UofL. Its year-round focus is to support the children, families, and doctors fighting pediatric cancer at UofL. raiseRED's donations benefit the work of the university's pediatric hematology and oncology program.
