
No. 8 Women’s Basketball Welcomes Pittsburgh on Sunday

The Cardinals and Panthers play on Sunday in the KFC Yum! Center at 4 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 8 University of Louisville women's basketball team has a short return home, playing host to Pittsburgh on Sunday in the KFC Yum! Center at 4 p.m.
The Jan. 8 game will be broadcast on Regional Sports Networks/ACC Network Extra (Fox Sports South in Louisville), with Jenn Hildreth (play-by-play) and Chelsea Shine (analyst) calling the action. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WKRD 790 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
It is Louisville's first home game this month and one of just three in January.
The Cardinals (14-3, 2-1 ACC) rebounded from their first conference loss with an 86-81 overtime victory at Virginia on Thursday, the team's second overtime win this season. Louisville connected on 24 of 32 free throws and outrebounded Virginia 51-42. The Cardinals turned over the ball just twice after halftime, while totaling 26 second-chance points.
Myisha Hines-Allen totaled career highs of 31 points and 17 rebounds in the victory, hitting 12-of-24 shots. Mariya Moore scored 23 points to go with six rebounds, and Asia Durr finished with 16 points. Taylor Johnson played a significant role off the bench, contributing seven points and four steals.
Through 17 games, Durr has a team-leading 18.2 points to go with 59 3-pointers, second-most nationally. Hines-Allen is approaching double-double numbers, boasting 13.8 points and 9.3 rebounds, and has four-consecutive games with a double-double. Moore is producing 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Briahanna Jackson has team bests of 80 assists and 30 steals.
Pittsburgh (10-5, 1-1) halted a two-game losing skid on Thursday, when it defeated Boston College 56-43 at home. The Panthers only shot 37.5 percent for the game, but went 5 of 8 from the field in the final period. The team shot 17 of 19 from the charity stripe. Defensively, Pittsburgh limited Boston College to 22.9 percent shooting and forced the Eagles into 17 turnovers for 16 points.
Kalista Walters came off the bench, played 30 minutes, and totaled a game-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Brenna Wise added 15 points and four steals, and reserve Kauai Bradley contributed nine points and eight rebounds. Emma Guy had 12 points in the loss for Boston College, which totaled 12 offensive rebounds.
Through 15 games, Wise is pacing the team in scoring (14.1) and rebounding (7.1). Brandi Harvey-Carr, the only other double-digit scorer on the team at 11.3 points, also ranks second on the team with 16 blocks. Jasmine Whitney leads the squad with 61 assists. Impressively, Wise, Harvey-Carr, Aysia Bugg, Bradley, and Alayna Gribble each are shooting at least 80 percent from the charity stripe.
Collectively, Pittsburgh ranks in the top-30 nationally in assist-turnover ratio (No. 16, 1.31), assists per game (No. 22, 17.6), and turnovers per game (No. 30, 13.5).
SERIES HISTORY – Virginia vs. Louisville
Louisville boasts a 12-2 series lead against Pittsburgh, having won the last eight meetings.
The programs met twice last year, first in Pittsburgh that resulted with an 84-61 Louisville victory. The Cardinals shot 58.2 percent from the field, held a 34-18 edge on the glass, and converted 15 offensive rebounds into 18 points. Myisha Hines-Allen scored a then-career best 29 points, Mariya Moore added 21, and Cortnee Walton recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Stasha Carey led Pittsburgh with 21 points, and Brenna Wise totaled 13.
In the second meeting, Louisville used a defensive effort to earn 65-36 victory at home. The Cardinals outscored the Panthers 27-6 in the first period and 42-10 in the first half. Louisville dominated the glass again, 43-31, and stifled the Panthers to just 19.2 percent shooting. Offensively, Louisville shot 68.0 percent in the first half. Hines-Allen again led the Cardinals, totaling 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting to go with 13 rebounds, and Briahanna Jackson finished with 12 points.
