No. 9 Women’s Basketball Gears Up for No. 14 Miami on Sunday

The Cardinals and Hurricanes play in the KFC Yum! Center on ESPN2 on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9 University of Louisville women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, facing another ranked opponent, when it plays host to No. 14 Miami in the KFC Yum! Center at 1:30 p.m.
The Jan. 15 game will be broadcast on ESPN2, with Beth Mowins (play-by-play) and Debbie Antonelli (analyst) calling the action. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WKRD 790 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
Louisville (15-4, 3-2 ACC) dropped a 72-65 decision at No. 9 Florida State on Thursday despite holding the Seminoles to 37.9 percent shooting. Florida State earned a 37-34 advantage on the glass and converted 19 Louisville turnovers into 18 points.
Asia Durr scored a team-high 21 points, while tallying four assists and three steals, and Mariya Moore added 15 points and five assists. Jazmine Jones, facing her hometown team, came off the bench and contributed eight points in 22 minutes.
Overall, Durr is pacing the Cardinals in scoring at 17.5 points per game and boasts 63 3-pointers, second most in the country. Myisha Hines-Allen is producing 13.2 points and 9.2 rebounds, and Moore is logging 12.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Briahanna Jackson has team highs of 87 assists and 32 steals.
The Hurricanes (14-3, 3-2) are coming off their third victory in four games, defeating No. 15 Virginia Tech 82-75 at home. Miami shot 47.7 percent from the field, including a 51.4 percent stint in the second half, and held a 38-33 edge on the glass. The Hurricanes outscored the Hokies 38-24 in the paint, but allowed Virginia Tech to tally 19 points on 15 turnovers.
Adrienne Motley scored a team-high 18 points, as five players in total scored in double figures. Motley also added four assists. Jessica Thomas finished with 17 points and a team-high six assists. Miami's bench contributed 39 points in the victory, led by Laura Cornelius' 13 points, Emese Hof's 14 points, and Sarah Mortensen's 10 points.
Through 17 games, Motley is pacing the team with 13.0 points and also has knocked down a team-leading 35 3s. Thomas, the only other double-digit scorer on the team, is averaging 12.9 points to go with team highs of 74 assists and 28 steals. Keyona Hayes is carrying a program-best 6.2 rebounding average.
Collectively, Miami ranks in the top-25 nationally in 3-point field goal defense (No. 19), 3-point field goal percentage (No. 20), and field goal percentage (No. 24).
SERIES HISTORY – Miami vs. Louisville
Louisville and Miami have met only three times in series history, with the Cardinals holding a 2-1 lead after capturing the last two decisions.
Last year, Louisville posted a 79-51 victory on Feb. 25 in Coral Gables, Fla. The Cardinals outscored the Hurricanes 22-8 in the second period and 24-9 in the third. Louisville forced 18 turnovers that led to 30 points and also tallied 22 second-chance points.
Myisha Hines-Allen scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Mariya Moore finished with 14 points, Briahanna Jackson contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, and Asia Durr came off the bench for 11 points.
