Summer Shots: Women's Basketball's Newcomers Arrive on Campus
June 01, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Five of the Cardinals’ freshmen and one transfer reached campus this week for the summer.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Though the basketball season is months away from beginning at the University of Louisville, members of the Cardinals' women's basketball program arrived on campus this week in preparation for the 2016-17 campaign.
Aided by their families, Louisville's newcomers – freshmen Jazmine Jones, Jessica Laemmle, and Sydney Zambrotta, and transfer Taylor Johnson – reached the Derby City early this week – with McDonald's All-Americans Kylee Shook and Ciera Johnson arriving on Wednesday – and settled into their on-campus housing arrangements before meeting with the coaching and support staffs.

Not including transfer Taylor Johnson, who was an all-conference selection at Loyola Chicago and scored more than 1,300 points in four seasons there, and walk-on guard Laemmle, a second-team all-sixth region selection at Mercy Academy, the incoming class is ranked sixth according to espnW HoopGurlz.
Returnees Arica Carter, Erin DeGrate, Sam Fuehring, Briahanna Jackson, Brianna Jones, and Cortnee Walton also made their way back to Louisville early this week and joined All-America Myisha Hines-Allen, who remained on campus following the spring semester, for the summer session.
As the Cardinals get ready for a busy summer, including summer classes, the members on campus went through medical screenings and begin official workouts on Monday.
Prior to fall classes, Louisville is taking its foreign trip to Cuba from Aug. 6-12. The Cardinals will be the first women's basketball program in the country to visit and play in the country.
Under the guidance of head coach Jeff Walz, Louisville is coming off a 26-8 record, going 15-1 in ACC contests, while reaching its sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament.
