Louisville ranked first heading into preliminaries
The University of Louisville spirit groups have arrived at Daytona Beach's Ocean Center, Band Shell and Peabody and are set to compete for the NCA and NDA National Championships today through April 9. The Cardinals will compete in five divisions: Large co-ed, small co-ed, All Girl, and the Ladybird dance team which will compete in both hip-hop and jazz.
"All four of our teams won our national qualifier back in August," said Spirit Group Coordinator Todd Sharp. "So technically you could say we were ranked first going into nationals this week. All of our teams are competing in preliminary rounds today. As of this afternoon, both the Ladybirds and Small Coed had placed first in the prelims."
Uof L sent a total of 150 student athletes marking the largest Collegiate Spirit contingent in the country, with 50 National Championships in the last 20 years of competition led by coaches Todd Sharp, James Speed, Misty Hodges and Sheryl Knight.
