Lancaster wins in singles and doubles
CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Â The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Miami in an ACC matchup Sunday afternoon.
Â
"We lost two three setters and Carlos was up 5-3 in the second set and lost in a tie-breaker," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We have to finish better. We have been in so many ACC matches and do not finish. We have tried different strategies and we will continue to work on this. We play fine during the match then we trip on the finish line. I look forward to the three practices we have before Boston College."
Â
The Cardinals opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins on courts 2 and 3. Senior Jeffrey Brown and freshman Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff teamed to beat Piotr Lomacki and Jesse Flores 6-1 at No. 2 while junior Sean Donohue paired with sophomore Courtney Lock for a 6-1 victory over Nile Clark and Fermin Calvo at the three-spot.
Â
In singles action, the Hurricanes evened the score on court six where Niclas Genovese defeated freshman Christian Haushammer 6-3, 6-0. Gornet fell 6-3, 6-3 to No. 43 Piotr Lomack on court one to give Miami a 2-1 lead. The Cards answered at the four-spot where Lancaster topped Calvo 6-4, 6-3 to tie the match at 2-2. Miami's Bernard Tefel put the Hurricanes back on top with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Longhi Neto at No. 5. The match was decided on court three where Brown rebounded from a 6-4 first set loss to beat Flores 6-1 in the second set, but Flores prevailed 7-6 in the decisive third set to make the score 4-2. At the two spot, Max Andrews bested Morin-Kougoucheff 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 for the final score of 5-2.
Â
Louisville (12-15, 0-10 ACC) returns to action on April 15 when the Cards play host to Belmont and Boston College in a doubleheader at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
