Men's Tennis Set for a Pair of Weekend Doubleheaders

Cards will play host to IUPUI and Georgia Tech on Friday; Clemson and Northern Kentucky on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team will play four home matches including two ACC contests this weekend at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards will open the weekend Friday with a doubleheader against IUPUI at 10 a.m. and No. 42 Georgia Tech at 4 p.m. Louisville resume action on Sunday against Clemson at 1 p.m. and Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m.

"The weather should be good and are expecting to play outdoors," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This will be our first outdoor team match of the season. IUPUI will be a good test for us. We defeated Georgia Tech 4-3 last season with Albert (Wagner) having a great day and Luis (Elizondo) clinching. They have almost all their starters back so it will be a big challenge."

About Louisville: Louisville enters the weekend with a 7-7 overall record and an 0-2 mark in ACC play.
• The Cardinals are coming off of a 5-2 loss at No. 41 Notre Dame. In that match, seniors Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown picked up singles wins at Nos. 2 and 4 respectively.

• Senior Alex Gornet and freshman Brandon Lancaster lead the team with 17 singles wins apiece. Gornet carries a 5-5 mark as Louisville's No. 1 player while Lancaster is 4-3 while playing mostly at No. 4. Gornet, sophomore Courtney Lock and freshman George Hedley each have five dual match wins in singles.

• The senior doubles team of Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet has registered a team-best nine wins in doubles. Hedley and fellow freshman Christian Morin-Kougoucheff have teamed for a 4-2 dual match record at No. 2. Junior Sean Donohue and Lock carry a 4-1 mark at Louisville's No. 3 team.

• Courtney Lock became Louisville's first ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on January 19.

• Head coach Rex Ecarma is in his 26th season at UofL and has a 416-233 overall record.

Up Next: Following Sunday's matches, the Cardinals will continue ACC play with a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face top-ranked North Carolina on March 18. They will continue their road swing with a visit to Blacksburg, Va. where they will face No. 39 Virginia Tech.
