Cards sweep singles and doubles

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over IUPUI on Friday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"The guys looked more confident this morning," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Our No. 1 doubles led the way for us and Chris and Michael got a big jump on their opponents to help us seal the victory. IUPUI always gives a good effort every season against us and I credit their head coach, Brandon Currie for that.

The Cards opened the match by taking the doubles point. The duo of Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown won 6-1 at the No. 1 spot over Bradley Luetschwager and Kyle Whittaker. The Cardinals clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 spot when the tandem of Sean Donohue and Courtney Lock won 6-3 over Patrick McAuley and Matt Moe.

In singles action, the Cards used straight sets in all six matches to win each singles point. Michael Quang cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Marcus Nalley. Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 over David Beasley. Gornet clinched the match with his 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 over Jac Newis. Brandon Lancaster held off his opponent, Akshay Verma, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 to push the lead to 5-0. Courtney Lock won at the No. 6 spot 6-2, 6-3 while Donohue finished the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

The Cardinals will be back Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they take on Georgia Tech in conference action at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
