Men’s swimming and diiving team says “Hello" to the title
The sixth annual Student-Athlete Talent Show kicked off Wednesday, Feb. 10, showcasing seven of UofL's Athletics programs' hidden talents. The event was a huge success while Cardinal athletes and support staff members showed up to cheer on their fellow teammates. With a wide variety of skits and performances, the night was filled with true talent and entertainment.
The event was held at the School of Music in Comstock Hall with an admission being a $5 donation. Over $600 was raised and proceeds will be donated to Louisville's Family Scholar House, a local non-profit. Their mission is to end the cycle of poverty and transform our community by empowering family and youth to succeed in education and achieve life-long self-sufficiency. Jake Schultz, a junior on the men's swimming & diving team, took home the first place trophy with his performance of "Hello" by Adele. This is the third consecutive win for the men's swimming and diving team and the fourth win in the six years of the event.
"I'm proud that the university thought of this show to raise money for Family Scholar House and involves the athletes in a way that's fun for everybody," said Schultz.
Field hockey took second place with a glow stick dance, impressing the judges with their creativity and preparation. Freshman rower Mallory Burnett also had a notable performance with a breakdance/jump rope routine that astonished the crowd. There is no doubt that UofL Cardinal student-athletes have talent outside of their respective sports.
Stage manager for the evening and Community Relations Assistant, Monica Negron, was pleased with how the night finished. "In the sixth year of the event, we wanted to change it up a bit, and try something we haven't done in the past. It was the first time we used Comstock Hall in the School of Music and loved the help we received from their staff and how nicely the venue fit for the event. We are very excited for the future and to continue to grow the event at this location."
