Student-athletes donate 50 beanies for NICU Preemies
Last Friday, Volleyball student-athletes took a trip to Kosair Children's Hospital where they spent the afternoon visiting patients and donated 50 beanies to the preemies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
"The most important aspect to our level of sports is the platform it provides us to reach out to a broad audience," said Eleni Georgiafandis, volleyball's Community Service Representative who originated the idea and organized the visit to the hospital. "Kosair Children's Hospital is filled with Louisville volleyball's most prized heroes no matter their age. From the infants fighting their battles in the NICU to the teens displaying nothing but courage in their designated struggles, we are privileged to meet with them and donate small tokens of our support towards their victories. The preemie hats that we donated were made with love and prayers of healthy blessings by my aunt. Because ofour own experiences with siblings and loved ones, the residents of the NICU are near and dear to our hearts and we wanted to show our support for even our smallest heroes!"
The visit to Kosair was part of the Athletic Department's CardsCARE Community Outreach Program. Since the start of the summer, Cardinals have given back a record-setting 9,000 hours. Each of Louisville's varsity teams as well as the spirit squads have contributed to this impressive feat.
