Michael Quang and Fredrik Moe lead Cards in singles on Friday
Sophomore Michael Quang and freshman Fredrik Moe won in singles to lead the University of Louisville on day one of the CCB Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham in Alabama on Friday.
Â
"We didn't have one of our better days today with a poor start in doubles," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "I hope we can learn from them and play better matches tomorrow. It was a very nice finish for us though, with both Michael and Fredrik showing great toughness in their three-set matches."
Â
In singles action, Quang (Forest Hills, Md.) defeated Troy's Andre Baldo 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Moe (Moss, Norway) added another win when he defeated Tulane's Chase Schupp 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Sophomore Brandon Lancaster (Louisville, Ky.) fell 6-2, 6-3 to Tulane's Tim Ruetzel. Freshman Clement Filho (Paris, France) defeated Samford's Jake Faundez 6-1 in the first set, but fell 6-4, 6-4 in the next two sets.
Â
The day started with two rounds of doubles. Samford's Justin Ghavami and Max Rebol outlasted Quang and Moe 7-6 (3) in their first round. Quang and Moe fell 6-3 to Troy's Andre Baldo and Gabriel Niculescu in their next match. Lancaster and Filho fell 6-4 to UAB's Eric Komati and Christian Coetzee and 6-4 to Lipscomb's Alejandro Manzanares and Chaw.
