Arica Carter was named one of 63 nominees for the WBCA Allstate Good Works Team.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's basketball junior Arica Carter is one of 63 NCAA Division I student-athletes nationally who have been nominated for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Good Works Team, it was announced Wednesday.
This award honors student-athletes who represent the sport's finest in the areas of community service and leadership among their peers.
Members of the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team, which will be comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level, will be recognized during the 2017 WBCA Convention and at the 2017 NCAA Women's Final Four in Dallas, and will also participate in a volunteer project in the local community. The final roster of award recipients will be announced in February.
Currently, Carter is carrying a 3.37 cumulative grade-point average and twice has earned spots on the Dean's List. She also has been highly involved – while managing a heavy class load and spending countless hours in the gym for a top-five women's basketball program – in the community.
Carter has been active in volunteering for a variety of charitable engagements: self-esteem affirmation project; Americans with Disabilities Act celebration; St. Jude's Walk to end childhood cancer; multiple basketball clinics; national wheelchair basketball tournaments; and participated in a clinic with the Cuban national team.
Understanding the value of her role as a student-athlete with a highly acclaimed basketball program, Carter has donated her time and done it with a smile. She has spoken about the life of a student-athlete, while motivating young kids to achieve their goals and the importance of time management and hard work. She has promoted high self-esteem through self-image, helping kids in single-parent homes to build their esteem through decorating dolls. At the St. Jude's Walk, Carter inspired children in their different activities at the event – dancing with them and teaching dance moves and cheering for them during games.
Arguably, the biggest asset Carter brings with her to different community events is her smile. Though her busy schedule may limit her quantity of hours, the Los Angeles, Calif., native ensures that her time is enhanced by touching countless lives.
