Cards Set Bone Marrow Drive
November 10, 2016 | General
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville student-athletes are organizing a drive this weekend to increase the quantity of possible bone marrow donors.
As part of UofL's CardsCARE community outreach program, the UofL Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has partnered with the Project Life Movement and will be hosting a pair of bone marrow donor drives this weekend. Project Life is a national movement to increase the potential pool of bone marrow and tissue donors by testing and registering college students with a simple cheek swab.
Fans have opportunities at three events this weekend to participate in the easy process:
- Prior to the Cardinals' season-opening men's basketball game against Evansville from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in the KFC Yum! Center.
- Prior to UofL's football game against Wake Forest from 4-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Street Fest outside the south end of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
- Prior to Women's Basketball season-opener against Belmont 1-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13 in the KFC Yum! Center.

Why? Because bone marrow treatments are the only hope for many people diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell anemia and other blood cancers and diseases, but 60 percent of those in need of a life-giving donation currently can't find a donor match. Students and those between the ages of 18-55 have a profound opportunity to save a human life. It takes only minutes to get tested and registered, and it's simple, painless and non-invasive.
