Cards get ready for 2016 season with Bullpen Club Dinner
The University of Louisville softball team ushered in the 2016 season with its ninth annual Bullpen Club Dinner which was held on January 23 at the Brown & Williamson Club at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Â
With nearly 200 guests – including several former players – in attendance, the 2016 team was introduced and head coach Sandy Pearsall previewed the upcoming season. Keynote speaker Lauren Chamberlain, the NCAA home run record holder, took the stage and motivated the current players to make the most of the opportunity to play college softball while regaling the crowd with stories from her own playing days.
Â
"Our Bullpen Club Dinner is always a special occasion, one we look forward to every year," said Pearsall. "It provides a great opportunity to connect with the community that helps support the program as well as the former players who helped build our tradition. We are grateful to all who came out to help us celebrate Louisville Softball."
Â
UofL is less than three weeks away from opening the 2016 season with a trip to Corpus Christi, Texas for the Islanders Invitational where the Cards will face Sam Houston State, Iowa and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
About Louisville Softball: The Cardinals finished the 2015 season with a 30-19 overall record after making their 12th consecutive NCAA regional appearance. Louisville returns 12 letterwinners and six starters from last year's squad including seniors Morgan Hart, Hailey Smith, Brittany Sims and All-ACC first team selection junior Maryssa Becker.
Â
Sandy Pearsall enters her 17th season as UofL's head coach. After building the program from scratch in 2000, Pearsall has guided the Cardinals to six conference championships. Under her watch, Louisville has made 12 consecutive NCAA regional appearances and served as a host site in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
