Kickoff set for 7:30 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium; reserved chairback tickets available for $12
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 18 Louisville men's soccer team will kick off the 2015 season with a visit from William & Mary on Friday at 7:30 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Friday's match will be the first of four straight at home to open the season for the Cardinals, who also welcome No. 8 Stanford for a top 20 showdown on Monday night (7:30 p.m.) at Lynn Stadium. The opening weekend of the season will provide a stern test for Louisville, one of only four programs to reach the third round of the NCAA Championship four times in the last five seasons.
"We're excited to get the season started, especially at home in the confines of Lynn Stadium and playing in front of our fans. For our guys, I think there's a lot of excitement and anticipation," said head coach Ken Lolla, who enters his 10th season at the helm of the Cardinals. "Getting a lot of people (at Lynn Stadium) is important but for the excitement of it, it's how we play and giving them something to celebrate."
Live video for each of Louisville's first two matches will be streamed online through CardsTV. Video access for both the William & Mary and Stanford matches is available for $9.95 through CollegeSportsLive.com.
Embarking on its second journey through the powerful ACC, the Cardinals return All-ACC First Team midfielder Ben Strong as well as ACC Freshman of the Year and All-ACC Second Team defender Tim Kubel from last year's squad, which advanced to the ACC Championship title match and reached the NCAA Sweet 16. Louisville finished the season with an 11-8-3 mark overall and is one of just three schools to win at least 11 games in eight straight seasons.
William & Mary is led by head coach Chris Norris, who is entering his 12th season guiding the Tribe. Last season, William & Mary finished with a 6-11-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Friday's match will be the first ever meeting between the Tribe and Cardinals.
Stanford is directed by head coach Jeremy Gunn, who enters his fourth season at the helm in Palo Alto. Last season, the Cardinal finished 13-3-3 overall and won the Pac-12 championship with a 6-1-3 mark. Stanford is led by junior forward Jordan Morris and senior defender Brandon Vincent. Both players earned All-America honors in 2014, while Morris has capped five times for the U.S. Men's National Team.
