UofL Student-Athletes Volunteer at Hosparus Lunar 5K
July 28, 2015 | General
This past weekend Louisville student-athletes from men's soccer, women's soccer, football, women's volleyball, and the men's and women's swimming and diving teamed up with Hosparus to lend a hand at their annual Lunar 5K run. The annual event is held as a fundraiser to help benefit patients and families throughout Southern Indiana and Kentucky.
On Saturday, July 27, Hosparus encouraged all runners of all speeds and ages to dress in super hero attire to support the cause. Swimmers Andrea Cottrell and Kelsi Worrell were among the Cardinal student athletes who had the opportunity to participate in the event. "Seeing people get out and run in super hero costumes was so fun. I really enjoyed cheering them on and making some of them smile," said Cottrell.
Hosparus is a nonprofit hospice care provider in the Kentuckiana area. Hospice is a comprehensive care by a team of experts that allows patients and their families to focus on living as fully as possible. Last year 1.4 million dying Americans were served by hospice providers across the nation. Annually, Hosparus serves more than 5,500 families in both Indiana and Kentucky.
There will be three Lunar 5K fundraisers left for the summer: Louisville, Bowling Green and Campbellsville. Each event has a different Lunar Expo where sponsors and vendors will be able to showcase their business, products and services. All proceeds are dedicated to helping the Hosparus organization.
