LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Highlighted by trips to Florida, Puerto Rico, and California, University of Louisville women's golf head coach Courtney Trimble released the Cardinals' 2015 schedule on Wednesday.
Louisville's schedule consists of 10 regular-season events, including two of which the Cardinals are serving as hosts: the Fall Kickoff in Duluth, Ga., and the Cardinal Cup at the UofL Golf Club in Simpsonville.
"I'm really excited about this schedule, and I believe it's one of the best in program history," Trimble said. "We will face some of the best teams in the country, and I think we will see quickly how our game compares right out of the gate."
Louisville opens its fall slate on Sept. 8 with the Fall Kickoff on The Highlands Golf Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Ga. The prestigious venue served as the site of the 2011 PGA Championship and the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship.
Two weeks later, the Cardinals travel to Franklin, Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Championship from Sept. 18-20 before traveling to the Tar Heel Invitational from Oct. 9-11 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
UofL then returns home to prepare for the annual Cardinal Cup, held at the UofL Golf Club from Oct. 19-20. The Cardinals are aiming for their fourth-consecutive team title at the event, but will face arguably the toughest field in recent history that features Florida State, Illinois, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin.
Louisville wraps up the fall campaign with the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 25-27 in Kiawah Island, S.C., and resumes competition on Jan. 31 in the second edition of the Battle of the Bluegrass State -- a dual match against in-state rival Kentucky. The Cardinals won last year's event, a 36-hole format, by six strokes.
Following its trip to Florida, the Cardinals head to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic from Feb. 14-16. The course -- The River Course at Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort -- is Greg Norman's first Caribbean design and rolls along the Mameyes River.
The Cardinals return to Florida for the Hurricane Invitational in Miami from Feb. 29-March 2, where they placed fourth at last year's competition and Katie Mitchell tied for sixth, then travel to the Briar's Creek Invitational from March 21-22 in Johns Island, S.C.
Louisville begins the month of April with a trip west to take part in the Silverado Showdown in scenic Napa, Calif. The Cardinals will compete on the Silverado Resort and Spa's North Course, which is going to be site of the season-opening event on the PGA TOUR's FedExCup schedule in October.
"Going to Puerto Rico in February and Napa in April -- we're going to see all types of grasses and golf courses," Trimble noted. "We're also going to be playing against teams from the East and West coasts, and we believe this will prepare us for the NCAA Regional."
Postseason play begins with the ACC Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club from April 15-17 in Greensboro, N.C. The NCAA regionals will be held from May 5-7, with teams qualifying to play at one of four locations: Stanford, Calif., Bryan, Texas, Baton Rouge, La., or Shoal Creek, Ala.
The 2016 national championships, hosted by Oregon at Eugene Country Club, take place from May 20-25. A Robert Trent Jones re-designed course, Eugene Country Club previously hosted the men's championships in 1959 and 1978, and the USGA U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in 2008. It was also a stop on the LPGA tour from 1962 to 1968.
