The University of Louisville softball team was recognized among the nation's Academic Progress Rate (APR) leaders in the latest multi-year report released by the NCAA Wednesday.
Softball is one of four UofL teams to earn a perfect 1000 score for the most recent four-year period ranging from 2010-14. Men's basketball, women's golf and men's cross country also earned perfect scores and are ranked among the top 10 percent in their respective sports in the latest APR which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes.
The Cardinals' softball team posted a program-best combined 3.382 GPA during the 2014-15 academic year, including a record 3.425 GPA for the 2015 spring semester with 20 players named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll by achieving a 3.0 or higher GPA. Additionally, 15 softball players were named Red & Black Scholars after producing a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Senior Kelsi Jones and junior Brittany Sims were named to the Capital One Academic All-District team and are eligible for Academic All-America status. All six seniors from the final year of the APR report on the 2014 team have graduated.
Throughout the four-year period covered by the APR report, the softball team has won 168 games, earned four NCAA regional bids and captured two conference titles.
