Cardinals Earn Novice Eight Win at No. 12 Michigan

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The University of Louisville rowing team closed the regular season portion of its schedule with a novice eight victory against No. 12 Michigan on Saturday morning at Belleville Lake.

With five crews competing, the Cardinals' novice eight crew finished with a time of 6:50.00 to finish 15 seconds clear of the Wolverines (7:05.00). Louisville's second varsity eight boat narrowly missed on a win over the Wolverines finished in a time of 6:32.60, just 2.5 seconds behind the host crew.

"I am very proud to see how the team got it together for today's racing. They showed a lot of maturity as they dealt with an intense practice schedule in the middle of finals week," said Louisville head coach Derek Copeland. "I love how our seniors showed their leadership and helped their team get through this tough couple of weeks."

The Cardinals also had varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four crews competing on Saturday morning. Now, Louisville will turn its focus to the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, set for May 15-16 in Clemson, S.C.

"We are very optimistic about how we will rise to the occasion of our first ACC Championship. This group is on a nice trajectory and we expect to see them at their top form in two weeks when we get to face some of the toughest competition in the country," said Copeland. "We are so proud to be in the ACC and we cannot wait for the opportunity to race at such a wonderful championship."
