Louisville Finishes Fourth at ACC Rowing Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Louisville rowing team earned a trio of runner-up finishes in the five grand finals and finished fourth overall in the team standings on the final day of the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Saturday morning at Lake Hartwell.
The Cardinals scored 72 points overall and were just one point behind third-place Syracuse in the nine-team championship. Virginia finished with 99 points to clinch its sixth straight ACC title and earn the league's automatic berth into the 2015 NCAA Championship, while Notre Dame was second in the team standings with 82 points. Host Clemson was a distant fifth behind Louisville with 59 points to round out the top five.
Additionally, Louisville had two athletes named to the All-ACC Rowing Team on Saturday. Senior Darya Marchanka (Minsk, Belarus) was a First Team selection, while junior Katie Nord (Louisville, Ky.) was chosen as a Second Team selection.
Louisville started its day with a second-place finish in the third varsity eight final crossing the line in a time of 6:43.7 and trailed only Virginia at 6:37.0. The Cardinals' second varsity four crew provided the second runner-up finish of the morning with a time of 7:30.6, while the Cavaliers led the way at 7:17.0. The second varsity eight crew gave Louisville its final second-place result of the day finishing in a time of 6:33.3 to trail Virginia at 6:28.8.
The Cardinals also earned a fourth-place finish in the varsity four grand final at 7:24.0 and were fifth in the varsity eight grand final with a time of 6:33.4. Virginia added wins in both of those events to sweep all five grand finals on Saturday.
The field of teams for the 2015 NCAA Championship will be announced on Tuesday at 5 p.m., ET on NCAA.com. The event is scheduled for May 29-31 in Gold River, Calif.
