Women's Tennis Falls to Clemson at ACC Championship

The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 21-ranked Clemson in the second round of the ACC Tournment Wednesday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The Cardinals dropped the doubles point when Cassie Pough and Manuela Velasquez fell 8-4 at No. 2 to Clemson's Jessy Rompies and Yiu Miao. The Cards pushed back at No. 1 and No. 3, both trailing just 7-6 trying rally. The Clemson No. 3 pairing of Tristen Dewar and Beatrice Gumulya beat Elle Stokes and Olivia Boesing 8-6 to clinch.
The Tigers kept their momentum when the play turned to singles. Romy Koezler won the first singles point with an 6-0, 6-1 win over Elle Stokes at No. 1. UofL's Ariana Rodriguez fell 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 to Jessy Rompies. No. 13 ranked Joana Eidukonyte, the Tigers' highest ranked singles player at No. 13, sealed the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Jessy Lynn Paul.
The Cardinals end their season at 12-17 overall and were 2-12 in ACC regular season play. The Cardinals defeated No. 12-seed Syracuse by a score of 4-3 in the first round of the tournament earlier today to advance to Thursday's second-round contest against the Tigers. Louisville claimed the doubles point, and won three-set singles contests at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 to defeat Syracuse.
The Tigers play 10th-ranked and No. 4-seeded Virginia in the quarterfinals on Friday The Cavaliers, last year's ACC champion, are 18-5 on the season. Earlier this year, Virginia edged the Tigers 4-3 in a close match in Clemson on March 20.
