LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- As part of the CardsCARE program, the University of Louisville Athletic Department held an Easter Egg Hunt at the KIDS Center for Pediatric Therapies over the weekend. Student-athletes from women's swimming & diving, lacrosse, and women's golf volunteered at the event. Over 50 children of all ages from the KIDS Center came out on the rainy, cold Saturday to participate in the center's annual egg hunt.
"Working with the kids was great, they were so excited about all the eggs. Seeing the kids that have so many challenges still be excited about something as small as finding an egg during the egg hunt was an incredible reminder to look for the small things in life that bring you joy because we are all truly blessed," commented volunteer Mady Ingmire, a junior diver from the women's swimming & diving program and also a member of the SAAC Executive Board.
"It was really inspiring to see how enthusiastic the kids were, and event their families. I was reminded to always enjoy life's simple pleasure and never take anything for granted," added freshmen lacrosse student-athlete Aleah MacKay.
The egg hunt was part of a yearlong partnership between the KIDS Center and the athletic department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Each year SAAC adopts a "Charity of Choice" and not only volunteers with the designated non-profit but also donates the proceeds from the annual Student-Athlete Talent Show. At the egg hunt, the SAAC and University of Louisville Athletics presented a donation of $1,200 to the KIDS Center. Cardinal student-athletes fundraised this amount during their February Talent Show.
