
Tennis Falls to No. 38 Virginia Tech

The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell to the No. 38-ranked Virginia Tech women's tennis team 6-1 in the last regular season match Sunday in Blacksburg.
Tech's Raluca Mita and Ilinca Stoica finished the first match as the Cardinal pair of Chloe Willetts and Ariana Rodriguez fell 8-3 at No. 1. The Hokies clinched when Caroline Daxhelet and Kelly Williford won 8-4 victory over Olivia Boesing and Elle Stokes at No. 3.
VT scored its first point in singles when Chloe Willetts was injured and had to retire, giving VT's Katherine Butler on the forfeit win at No. 6. No. 85-ranked Illinca Stoica scored next with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elle Stokes at No. 1. Hokie Caroline Daxhelet clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Olivia Boesing. Elena Cerezo-Codina downed Jessie Lynn Paul 6-1, 6-3. No. 50-ranked Francesca Fusinato went into a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2, when the Cardinals' tenacious senior Manuela Velasquez gave Tech a battle before falling 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (8). Ariana Rodriguez scored the Cards' point with a third set tiebreaker score of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8) over Sansitha Nandakumar's at No. 5.
Next up for the Cardinals is the ACC Championship at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. Louisville is the No. 13 seed and will face No. 12 Syracuse on Wednesday at 12 p.m. with the winner to face No. 5 Clemson on Thursday at 3 p.m.
