Louisville Earns Two Wins on Day One at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Louisville rowing team earned a pair of wins and added three runner-up finishes during the first day of racing at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday at Lake Hartwell.

The Cardinals' second varsity eight crew of Annie Pape (coxswain), Sarah Podwojski, Elise Valantine, Madeleine Chesney, Kylie Noltemeyer, Amanda Zalno, Kylen Pattermann, Rebecca Busk and Rebecca Yaklic finished with a time of 6:50.4 and was nearly four seconds ahead of second-place Duke. Michigan State was third in the seven-team race more than four second behind Louisville, while Penn was fourth.

Louisville's varsity four crew of Tiffany Chea (coxswain), Lucrezia Fossi, Ashleigh Hodge, Marissa Thalen and Maddy Staubitz crossed the finish line in a time of 7:46.1 and was more than five seconds ahead of runner-up Cornell. Penn was third and Oklahoma fourth in the six-team field.

The opening day of racing also produced second-place finishes for Louisville's second varsity four boat, third varsity eight boat and fourth varsity eight boat. The Cardinals will conclude the two-day Clemson Invitational on Sunday morning.
