April 13, 2015 | General
The Cardinals came away with three national championships, two runnerups and two third place finishes.
The Small Co-Ed Cheer Squad, the All-Girl Cheer Squad and the Ladybirds all were crowned national champs. The Cards were second in the Hip Hop Division as well. The Large Co-Ed squad took third as did the group stunt. The Partner Stunt duo of Kalie Bodey and Chris Etheridge were second and teammates Calli Cantu and Nic Laracuente was 7th as a pair.
"Just wow. What an amazing week here at Nationals for our University of Louisville Cheerleaders and Ladybirds," said Spirit Group Coordinator/Ladybirds Coach Todd Sharp. "We ended the competition with three National Championships. There were hundreds of super talented teams there and so much mutual respect all around. Our kids were amazing and continue to exceed our expectations. It seems like many people at home take for granted we will win. But the truth is each win is a real battle and against many of the top universities in the country. Each year is filled with tons of physical and mental struggle, very little down time, and of course the pressure of this legendary program. But, without a doubt, the work is worth it."
The Spirit Groups prepare all year for the two minute and 30 second performance, which is nationally televised. U of L is coached by head coach and spirit coordinator Todd Sharp along with Sheryl Knight, Misty Hodges and James Speed. In all, the spirit Teams have 43 national titles.
