LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's basketball's Mariya Moore was named an Associated Press All-America honorable mention on Tuesday afternoon.
Moore was one of just five true freshmen to be recognized on the Associated Press All-America teams, which consists of three five-member teams and 36 honorable mention selections. Notably, she became the first player in school history to be honored by the Associated Press in their freshman season.
At the end of the regular season, Moore was named to the Blue Ribbon and Coaches' all-ACC second teams and all-freshman teams.
The Hercules, Calif., native paced Louisville in scoring (13.4), 3-pointers (62), free throws (124), and free throw percentage (.805). She finished the year with 454 points, becoming the sixth player in school history to score at least 400 points in their freshman campaign. With 121 assists, second most on the team, she is one of just four players in Louisville history to dish out at least 100 assists as a freshman.
A 6-foot forward, Moore totaled 25 games with double-digit points, including five 20-point performances. She logged nine games with at least five assists and at least two steals in 14 contests.
In the school's inaugural year in the ACC, Moore ranked in the top 20 in a host of categories: scoring (No. 20), assists (No. 7), free throw percentage (No. 8), steals (No. 13), 3-point field goals made per game (No. 10), and assist-turnover ratio (No. 7).
Moore continues competition this summer, when she rejoins USA Basketball to compete at the 2015 FIBA U-19 World Championship in Chekhov, Russia, from July 18-26.
