Men's swimming and diving wins first place at the Fifth Annual Student-Athlete Talent Show
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) presented its Fifth Annual Student-Athlete Talent Show Wednesday, Feb. 4. The talent show is an opportunity for the University of Louisville student-athletes to showcase their various talents. Each year, the student-athletes select a beneficiary charity and raise money by charging admission to the talent show. This year the proceeds from the show will be donated to the KIDS Center for Pediatric Therapies in Louisville.
In the Fifth Annual Talent Show, saw a record-breaking 14 teams performing with over 300 student-athletes, staff and faculty in attendance. Men's swimming and diving was crowned champions after their Ladybird-inspired dance routine won over the judges. This first place finish places men's swimming and diving as the all-time winningest talent show team, claiming the crown three of the last five years. Softball sang their way to second place finish with a rousing a cappella melody. Men's golf finished third behind the acoustic guitar playing of junior David Torres.
Other routines included volleyball's spoof of the Miss Kentucky pageant with Katie George as host. A surprise act from some of the athletic trainers consisted of a parody rendition of "Hey There Delilah." The other participating teams included baseball, women's soccer, men's soccer, rowing, women's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, lacrosse, and field hockey.
"Once again the so-called `talent' that each team brought gave a great humor and entertainment to the student-athletes, staff and faculty. It's been so nice to see how much this event has evolved over the past four years, and in doing so it's been very rewarding to see the benefits go to such a great organization, KIDS pediatrics," said Becca Maddock, a senior on the field hockey team and SAAC President.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will present the donation of $1,250 to the KIDS Center in the spring when they host an Easter Egg Hunt at the center.
