
Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 8 Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Briahanna Jackson had 18 points, Myisha Hines-Allen added 16, and the University of Louisville women's basketball team lost at No. 8 Kentucky 72-54 on Thursday night in Rupp Arena.
The Cardinals (3-5), who had their two-game winning streak snapped, shot just 36.4 percent from the field and were outrebounded 36-27 for the game.
Louisville fell behind early after Kentucky opened the game with three-consecutive baskets for a 7-0 lead. Jumpers by Cortnee Walton and Hines-Allen and free throws by Jackson brought the Cardinals within six, and back-to-back baskets by Asia Durr cut the Cardinals' margin to within four at 14-10.
Janee Thompson hit a 3 to make it a three-possession game before the first quarter ended, and Kentucky's solid shooting in the second period helped the Wildcats build a 17-point lead by the break. Taylor Murray had seven points in the period, and Makayla Epps had six of her game-high 24 for Kentucky, which connected on 9-of-15 from the floor in the 10-minute frame.
Louisville outscored the Wildcats (8-0) 19-15 in the third period, cutting an 18-point deficit to 10 with 3:19 left in the quarter on a Hines-Allen jumper for two of her eight points in the quarter.
Kentucky responded in the fourth quarter, though, eventually building its lead to 19 on a Thompson jumper.
Mariya Moore and Durr finished with seven points.
Louisville returns to action on Sunday at home against IUPUI. Tip at the KFC Yum! Center is set for 2 p.m.
