Softball Concludes Fall Season with Wins Over Campbellsville and Bellarmine

Cards defeat Campbellsville 4-0 and Bellarmine 4-2
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team wrapped up the fall season with a pair of wins over Campbellsville and Bellarmine Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium. The Cardinals defeated Campbellsville 4-0 and Bellarmine 4-2 to cap the fall season with a perfect 6-0 record.
Louisville 4 – Campbellsville 0
In Sunday's first game, Morgan Meyer went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI while junior Maryssa Becker and freshman Kaylea Horn struck out four batters apiece to combine for the shutout as the Cardinals defeated Campbellsville 4-0.
The teams played through four scoreless innings before the Cardinals broke through with four runs in the fifth. Junior Sarah Lopesilvero connected on a one-out single and senior Brittany Sims followed with a walk. Junior Morgan Meyer's RBI hit brought Lopesilvero home and sent Sims to third and she scored on sophomore Sidney Melton's groundout. After a walk was issued to Becker, junior Jordan McNary entered the game as a pinch runner. A Campbellsville error sent Meyer and McNary home.
Horn got the win, holding the Tigers scoreless on two hits and striking out four in 3.0 innings of relief. Becker, who got the start in the circle, scattered two hits and fanned four in 4.0 innings of work. Lopesilvero went 2 for 3 with a run and Melton had an RBI triple to help lead the Cards at the plate.
Victoria Decker took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits in 5.0 innings. Markie Smith and Madison Mudd each had two hits for the Tigers.
Louisville 4 – Bellarmine 2
In game two, junior Maryssa Becker and Michala Riggle each had a pair of hits to help Louisville to a 4-2 win over Bellarmine.
The Knights jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Erica Knollman registered a one-out hit and scored on Katie Stamper's double. After a Louisville error, Stamper eventually crossed the plate on a passed ball.
Louisville used four hits and three errors to put up three runs in the home half of the second inning. Freshman Megan Hensley and junior Jordan Lane delivered back-to-back singles and both scored on errors. Sophomore Jamie Soles reached on another Bellarmine miscue and took second on Riggle's base hit. Junior Jordan McNary's RBI single plated Soles and gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.
The Cards tacked on another run in the fifth when freshman Jordan Vorbrink and Becker each singled to start the inning. Sarah Lopesilvero's flyout sent Vorbrink to third and she scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jordan Lane for the 4-2 final.
Becker got the win, holding the Knights scoreless and did not give up a hit or a walk while striking out three in 3.0 innings. Freshman Kaylea Horn got the save with two strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Marlee Tevis took the loss after giving up four runs, two earned, on eight hits in 5.0 innings. Katie Stamper went 1 for 3 with an RBI while Melissa Hammer and Erica Knollman each had a hit for the Knights.
