Ola Mally advances in singles

The University of Louisville's Ola Mally reached the Round of 32 as the Cardinals completed play in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Friday.

Ola Mally, the overall No. 9 seed in the singles tournament, picked up a victory over IUPUI's Sara Sherif 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the Round of 32 that will take place Saturday morning. Junior Elle Stokes fell 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-3 to Marta Morga of Memphis and junior Chloe Willets fell 6-1, 6-2 to Mercedes Hammond of Tennessee. Sophomore Jessie Lynn Paul, who won two matches in qualifying singles on Thursday to advance to the main draw, fell 6-1, 6-2 to Kentucky's Nadia Ravita, who is the No. 5 overall seed.

In doubles action, the duo of Mally and Willets fell 8-7 (5) to Jemima Potter and Sarah Candeloro of UT-Martin while Ariana Rodriguez/Elle Stokes fell 8-6 to Morgan Chumney and Kirsten Lewis of Kentucky.
Action continues on Saturday with championship singles and doubles as well as consolation singles and doubles at the Schwartz Center.
