LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Each major event on the University of Louisville women's basketball team's calendar signifies one thing – the 2015-16 campaign is inching closer.
The Cardinals celebrated the annual tip-off luncheon, presented by Ellis & Badenhausen Orthopaedics and Body Rx, on Wednesday afternoon in front of a crowd of 670 at the Marriott Downtown Louisville.
The event, which has grown each year since head coach Jeff Walz arrived in 2007, featured a highlight video from last year's that went 27-7 and reached the program's sixth Sweet 16.
Following a three-course meal, master of ceremonies and radio play-by-play broadcaster Matt Andrews introduced this year's Cardinals and then introduced Walz, the winningest coach in program history, both to a standing ovation. The ninth-year coach spoke about the support the program receives from the University, including school President Dr. James Ramsey and Vice President for Athletics Tom Jurich. He also commented on the team's returnees, the nation's No. 1 recruiting class, and the program's yearly expectations.
Upon conclusion of the event, the coaching staff and student-athletes met with each of the attendees.
Louisville opens its season on Nov. 15 at the KFC Yum! Center against 2013 Final Four foe California. Season ticket information is available on GoCards.com.
