UofL Partnered with Go4theGoal during the Month of September
During the month of September, Louisville Athletics partnered with the Go4theGoal Foundation to raise funds and awareness in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Men's and women's soccer, field hockey, women's golf, men's tennis, women's soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, women's cross country and spirit teams, all dedicated a game and or match to promote Childhood Cancer Awareness. Nearly 280 student-athletes raised a total of $1,400 by purchasing gold shoelaces to wear during their contest as part of the "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" campaign. The entire amount will be donated to Kosair Children's Hospital on behalf of Louisville Athletics.
The Go4theGoal Foundation was founded in 2006 by Dr. Richard and Beth Stefanacci, soon after their oldest son Richard was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. In 2011 Go4theGoal launched two national campaigns, National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day and Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer. These campaigns give schools, businesses, and sports teams an opportunity to raise awareness and much needed support for kids battling cancer. Go4theGoal provides children undergoing cancer treatment and their families with financial assistance, runs fun hospital-based programs, grants special wishes, and supplies state of the art electronic products to children and pediatric oncology units across the country.
Go4theGoal strives to assist local families by providing one hundred percent of the proceeds to the local community of the university that decide to join the cause. Go4theGoal has partnered with many universities nationwide and is constantly looking to partner with different entities across the country to expand their reach. Since 2007, Go4theGoal has funded nearly a million dollars in research. For the past three consecutive years, Go4theGoal has earned the honor of "Top Rated Non Profit" by Great Nonprofits.
