Four Honorary Cardinals Were Given a VIP Game Day
As an on-going mission to promote September's Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, on Saturday, September 26th at the Louisville vs. Samford Football game, CardsCARE partnered with Special Spectators to create a VIP Game Day Experience for four honorary Cardinals: Kara, Dawson, Wyatt and Zoe.
Special Spectators creates magical days for seriously ill children and their families at sporting events across the United States. Its mission is to create fun for the entire family and provide a pause from the difficulties they face battling a loved one's illness.
Kara, Dawson, Wyatt and Zoe started their day at the YUM! practice facility, where they received their VIC (Very Important Cardinal) badges. Lacrosse student-athletes showed them the ropes of what it takes to catch and throw. After the time on the field, the student-athletes gave the kids a scavenger hunt through the facility where there were small surprises left for them in the lacrosse, volleyball and men's basketball locker rooms.
Once the four were geared up, they were off to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and spent the time at the Petrino Family Foundation tailgate where they met Baseball student-athlete. Before kick-off, the four VIC's were granted access to the field to do the Game Ball Delivery. The VIC's had a chance to meet cheerleaders, ladybirds, and football student-athletes, who all came to say hello them in the end zone.
Community Relations Assistant and VIC Game Day Coordinator, Monica Negron, was honored to put on the day for the families. "It is always so rewarding when you see the joy that comes to the young kids when they get to spend a day away from thinking about hospital visits and treatments and get to experience a moment where they're the all-stars for the day."
