Men's Tennis Falls to No. 3 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 5-0 to third-ranked Virginia in the regional finals of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
"It was a great atmosphere to play in ITA regional finals," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Unfortunately, we did not play our very best like we needed to and UVA had a lot to do with that. Their roster is like the USA junior national team. I can see this team winning the National Team Indoor Championships. We have played in couple of them and they have the talent and depth to do it. Ryan Shane played lights out. Our level of play has improved from last weekend which is a positive. We have two weeks until our showdown with Oregon. I look forward to get back to training and am confident we can improve even more."
The Cavaliers used doubles wins at Nos. 1 and 2 to take the first point of the match. Louisville's Chris Simich and Albert Wagner fell 6-1 to No. 14 Luca Corinteli and Ryan Shane at the top seed while Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri lost 6-4 to No. 37 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Mac Styslinger.
In singles action, Albert Wagner, No. 59 in the ITA singles rankings fell 6-0, 6-0 to No. 6 Ryan Shane on court No. 2. Michael Lippens fell 6-1, 6-4 to No. 4 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski at the three-spot. Van Damrongsri lost 6-2, 6-1 to Alexander at the five seed. Luis Elizondo fell 6-3, 6-2 to J.C. Aragone at No. 6 for the final point of the match.
The Cardinals (2-2) return to action on Feb. 8 when they play host to Oregon and Morehead State in a doubleheader at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
