The University of Louisville men's tennis team swept Morehead State 5-0 in its final match of the weekend. The Cards (4-2) beat No. 44 Oregon 4-2 earlier Sunday.

"That was a really competitive match," said Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma. "Coach Kevin Fulton has his team really competing hard. They're solid from top to bottom. That's a very dangerous team and also a team that I could see win the OVC and play in the NCAA tournament.

Louisville took the doubles point after winning at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Juniors Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown finished first at the No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 victory over Nick Mercer and Sabastian Penaloza. Morehead State's Enrique Samudio and Jose Zurro punched back with a 6-4 win over senior Chris Simich and freshman Stjepan Cagalj. Seniors Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri clinched the match at the No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 defeat over Ritchie Kruunenberg and Gabriel Ruiz.

"I was expecially proud today of Alex Gornet, he finished all four of his matches and won all four," said Ecarma. "Sebastion Stiefelmeyer was right there too, winning his matches, so those two kind of led the way. I felt like Albert Wagner was really gutsy, he had some stomach thing going on and he still player well. It was also good to see Jeff Brown contribute in singles."

In singles play, Louisville won all four matches. Brown defeated Samudio 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot, and Gornet quickly followed up with a win against Ruiz in the No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Michael Lippens won his match against Zurro with a 6-1, 6-3 score in the No. 5 spot. Stiefelmeyer, the No. 1-ranked singles player in the nation, finished the singles category for the Cards with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kruunenberg in the No. 1 spot.

The Cards return to action on Feb. 14 as they host Michigan State and Austin Peay at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
