Lacrosse Raises Awareness for the One Love Foundation

Last week, the University of Louisville lacrosse team showcased its culinary skills with a variety of baked goods to sell to fellow students in order to raise money and awareness for the One Love Foundation. The Cardinals netted $250 in their third annual bake sale.
The One Love Foundation was created in 2010 following the death of Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia senior lacrosse student-athlete who lost her life to relationship violence at the hands of her ex-boyfriend just two weeks shy of graduation. The organization now seeks to prevent future tragedies by raising awareness about the warning signs of relationship violence.
The lacrosse team also participated in the "Yards for Yeardley" campaign. Nine men's and 87 women's NCAA lacrosse teams across the country dedicated their winter workouts to raise awareness surrounding domestic violence. Teams calculated their total mileage they ran or biked as a team and converted it into yards. This past break the Cardinals finished with a grand total of 1,803,720 yards or more than 1,024 miles.
Senior captain, Faye Brust said, "I have a deep connection to the cause because she grew up in the same area that I am from in Maryland and played with the some of the same people I grew up playing with. It gives a deeper meaning to logging more time running or to spend time in the kitchen baking. I hope we can keep getting the word out not only throughout the lacrosse community, but also to the community as a whole."
