LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team plays its second-consecutive game at home, taking on ACC foe Virginia in the KFC Yum! Center on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The contest will air on the ACC Regional Sports Networks (Fox Sports South in Louisville), with Drew Deener (play-by-play) and Christy Winters Scott (analyst) on the call. The radio broadcast will be available on WKRD 790 AM in Louisville, with Matt Andrews (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst) calling the action.
No. 4 Louisville (16-1) has won its last eight games and improved to 4-0 to remain tied for first in the ACC standings following a 65-58 victory over NC State on Jan. 14. The Cardinals sprinted out to 32-19 advantage at the half thanks in large part to both a 20-0 run and a 10:35 stretch in which they held the Wolfpack without a basket.
Sara Hammond led Louisville with her second double-double of the year, 16th of her career, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mariya Moore had 17 points to lead Louisville in scoring for the seventh time this season. Shawnta' Dyer came off the bench to add 11 points, and Jude Schimmel chipped in nine points, three assists, and two steals.
Moore is pacing the Cardinals in scoring with 13.9 points, the 19th-best mark in the ACC and fourth best among freshmen, and a team-high 62 assists. Myisha Hines-Allen continues to sit second on the team in scoring (12.2), and Hammond is averaging 10.6 points and 6.3 rebounds. Defensively, Schimmel ranks second in the league with 2.4 steals per game.
The Cavaliers (13-4, 3-1) recorded their fourth win in five games after a 68-56 victory over Boston College on Thursday. Collectively, the team hit 13 3-pointers and went 11-of-13 from the free throw line. Despite getting 15 offensive rebounds, Virginia scored just 11 second-chance points.
Faith Randolph led all scorers with 23 points, and Sarah Imovbioh had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Mikayla Venson added 13 points and three steals, and Breyana Mason had 12 points and seven assists.
Through 17 games, Randolph is leading Virginia in points per game (17.8) and steals (27). Imovbioh, producing 14.6 points and a conference-leading 11.2 rebounds per game, is one of four players in the league averaging a double-double. As a team, Virginia is scoring 71.4 points per game behind 43-percent shooting. The team, averaging 6.2 3-pointers per game, is hitting 40.4 percent of its treys in conference action.
The Cavaliers are under the direction of fourth-year coach Joanne Boyle, who has a 68-46 record at the helm of the program. Virginia was picked to finish 10th in the ACC Preseason Media Poll after going 14-17 last year.
