LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's golf team opens the 2014-15 season on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Cardinal Kickoff at Chariot Run Golf Course in Laconia, Ind.
The single-day, 36-hole tournament will play on the par-72, 6,260 yard course. Along with the Cardinals, golfers from Cincinnati, Georgia, Morehead State, and Tennessee will participate in this event.
Louisville will utilize two teams in the tournament. The black team consists of Laura Restrepo, Katie Mitchell, Louise Oxner, Emily Haas, and Katie Petrino, while the red team features Molly Skapik, Shannon Gramley, Haley Andreas, Emily Kurey, and Sara Karlsson.
Under now-third year head coach and AAC Coach of the Year Courtney Trimble, Louisville captured the inaugural AAC Championship last season and earned a bid to the NCAA East Regional. Through three days of competition, the Cardinals finished 18th at the event.
Among the team's returnees is Haas, who finished runner-up at the league championship and concluded the year second on the team with a 73.4 stroke average.
Restrepo logged six top-10 finishes last year, including victories at the IU Fall Kickoff and the Cardinal Cup. She finished the year with a 73.1 stroke average, which was lowest on the team. Petrino had three top-10 finishes last season along with three top-20 showings. She ranked third on the team with a 74.4 stroke average.
Over the summer, Gramley and newcomer Mitchell advanced to the third round of stroke play at the 112th North & South Women's Amateur Championship. Mitchell was a standout at UCF, where she was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year along with earning all-C-USA second team accolades.
Following action over the weekend, the Cardinals will play host to the Cardinal Cup on Sept. 15-16 at the newly renovated UofL Golf Club. Louisville will be making a run for its third-consecutive team title.
