LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's golf team capped its three-day run at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday with a fifth-place showing in Wolcott, Colo.
Louisville compiled a total score of 25-over-par 889 following its 7-over-par 295 in the third round. The Cardinals, who now have top-five finishes in all three tournaments this year, finished just eight strokes behind Campbell for fourth.
Pepperdine won the event for the third-consecutive year, posting a combined 2-under-par 862.
The Cardinals, who were led by different golfers each round at the Red Sky Golf Club, were paced by Katie Petrino's season best 1-under-par 71 on the final day of action. The redshirt junior carded a solid 1-under-par on the front nine, recording a par on eight holes and firing a birdie on No. 8. Overall, she went 10-straight holes without missing a par - after starting the day on hole No. 5 - before bogeying on 15. Petrino, though, rebounded with a birdie on 17 to finish tied for 18th in the individual standings.
Louisville's top-individual finisher, Laura Restrepo shot a 2-over-par 74 and finished tied for 11th with a 5-over-par 221. She battled in the first round, finishing 1-over-par despite hitting three bogeys. Restrepo was able to secure a birdie on No. 5 - a par-5, 507-yard hole - as well as hole No. 8.
Katie Mitchell also posted a top-20 finish after replicating her 3-over-par 75 finish from Tuesday. She started the day with a bogey on No. 4, but met par on the next six holes. Following a bogey on 11, she clubbed consecutive birdies and finished even on the back nine.
Emily Haas rounded out the Cardinals' scoring quartet, totaling a 3-over-par 75. Tying for 24th place, she hit two birdies during the day that included a 1-over-par performance on the last nine holes.
The Cardinals return to action in two weeks with the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The three-day event begins on Oct. 10 and will be held at ACC member North Carolina's Finley Golf Club.
