LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following a season-opening victory a week ago, the University of Louisville women's golf team is returning to action this week with the two-day Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Course in Simpsonville, Ky.
The Cardinals, aiming for a third-straight Cardinal Cup title, start competition on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shot gun start at the program's newly renovated par-72, 6,223-yard course. The first day features two 18-hole rounds followed by one round of 18 on Tuesday, also starting at 8:30 a.m.
Live scoring for the tournament will be available through BirdieFire.com.
In addition to Louisville's split squads, golfers from 15 schools are scheduled to participate, including Cincinnati, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee State, and Memphis. Chattanooga, which finished fourth at last year's event, also is among the field of competitors.
This year's Louisville black team consists of Laura Restrepo, Emily Haas, Katie Petrino, Katie Mitchell, and Louise Oxner, while the red squad boasts Shannon Gramley, Molly Skapik, Sara Karlsson, Emily Kurey, and Haley Andreas.
At last year's competition, Louisville shot a 292 in the final round for a winning team score of 859 for its second-consecutive Cardinal Cup victory. Restrepo logged her second of two victories last year with the win, shooting an impressive 5-under-par 67 in the first round and finishing with a 4-under-par 212. Haas came in second with a 3-under-par 213 that included an event-low 66 in the opening round.
Under third-year head coach Courtney Trimble, Louisville started the season on Sept. 7 at the Cardinal Kickoff in Laconia, Ind., with the Louisville black squad taking first in the five-team event. Restrepo fired a 3-under-par 141 on the day for the victory and a one-stroke advantage over teammate Haas. Petrino bolstered the team with a fifth-place finish, and newcomer Mitchell took sixth.
Louisville's red team, led by Gramley's third-place showing, tied with Georgia for runner-up honors.
