The University of Louisville's initial women's basketball season in the Atlantic Coast Conference will include a challenging slate of 16 games, including two games each against Pittsburgh, and Virginia in 2014-15.
The 2014-15 season is the first year of a rotating schedule in which home and road opponents will flip flop for the 2015-16 season. Louisville will continue to play Pittsburg and Virginia twice during the season, unless adjusted by the conference.
"We are looking forward to playing such a challenging schedule," said Louisville head coach Jeff Walz. "This will be a great schedule for our fans. We look forward to renewing old Big East rivalries and beginning new rivalries in the ACC. It is the premier league in the country and we look forward to the competition."
Louisville's home ACC opponents in 2015-16 will be Boston College, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Miami, NC State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Virginia. The Cardinals' eight league road games will be at Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Virginia.
Louisville is one of five ACC teams that have been included in ESPN.com's very early rankings for next season. The Cardinals are ranked 16th in the early preseason rankings along with No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 7 Duke, No. 10 North Carolina and No. 21 Syracuse.
The Cardinals will welcome back starters Sara Hammond and Bria Smith among 10 total lettermen from last season's successful team that posted a 33-5 record, advancing to the Elite Eight.
