Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Crystl Bustos will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 Class Act Federal Credit Union Louisville Softball Bullpen Club Dinner presented by MPC Promotions. The annual dinner will be held on January 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brown & Williamson Club at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
"We are really excited to have Crystl Bustos as our guest speaker at the Bullpen Club Dinner, " said UofL head coach Sandy Pearsall. "She is a tremendous hitter, certainly one of the best to have represented the United States in our sport. I think she brings great insight into the game and I just love her mentality at the plate so I'm excited for our players to be around somebody of her caliber."
About Crystl Bustos: Crystl Bustos was considered the most powerful hitter in the game during her career with the USA Softball team from 1999 through 2008. She holds four Olympic records including the one for home runs after hitting six in the 2008 Beijing Games. The Canyon Country, California native helped lead Team USA to Olympic Gold Medals in 2000 and 2004, and a Silver Medal in 2008.
She made her Olympic debut in the 2000 Sydney Games where she played shortstop and led the team with 10 hits with three home runs and five runs scored en route to winning the Gold Medal. She moved to third base in the 2004 Athens Olympics where she registered a perfect fielding percentage as she batted .346 with five home runs with 10 RBIs in nine starts to help USA Softball to a Gold Medal. Bustos bettered that performance in the 2008 Beijing Games, when she split time between third base and designated player, batted .500 and set an Olympic record with six home runs and 12 runs scored while knocking in 10 RBIs to lead USA Softball to a Silver Medal. Bustos went on to earn 2008 USA Softball Player of the Year honors.
In addition to winning three Olympic Medals, she helped USA Softball to two World Cup Championships (2006 and 2007), three Pan American Gold Medals (1999, 2003 and 2007) and a Gold Medal at the 2006 ISF World Championships.
Bustos played at Palm Beach Community College where she helped her team to two NJCAA National Championships and was a two-time NJCAA first-team All-American and NJCAA player of the year.
She also enjoyed a successful career in the professional ranks as a member of the National Professional Fastpitch League's Akron Racers and led her team to the 2005 NPF title. Bustos was the Most Valuable Player in the Women's Professional Softball League while playing for the Orlando Wahoos in 1998.
