Cards Host Healthy Family Training Camp
November 26, 2014 | General
The University of Louisville Athletics Department partnered with the American Heart Association to host the fifth annual Healthy Family Training Camp. The event took place on Sunday, November 23, before the women's basketball game against Ball State at the KFC Yum! Center. Over 400 families participated in this year's event, which included a complimentary ticket to see the nationally ranked Cardinals in action.
The purpose of the camp is to educate and motivate kids and adults to lead a heart healthy lifestyle. Families received resources and participated in activities encouraging heart health. Along with healthy eating habits, just 30 minutes of daily exercise for adults and 60 minutes of daily exercise for children can increase overall health. The free event included games and challenges, cooking demonstrations, health screenings and other activities. Louisville student-athletes volunteered at the spirit station and led group demonstrations including warm-ups, body weight exercises and yoga.
The American Heart Association and Louisville Athletics are looking forward to next year's camp in hopes of continuing to grow and expand the event to help the better the Louisville community.
