Women's Tennis Signs Suswam
November 17, 2014 | Women's Tennis
Sena Suswam of Hoover, Alabama has signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her tennis playing career at the University of Louisville according to women's tennis head coach Mark Beckham.
Suswam is the No. 1 ranked female tennis player in the state of Alabama. The 2014 Alabama Junior Player of the Year is also ranked ninth in the Southern region.
"Everyone associated with the Women's Tennis program should be really excited about Sena," said Beckham. "I think she is one of biggest hitters in the U.S. Junior rankings. I would consider her under the radar but I am not really sure how under the radar a 5-Star rated player can be. She plays a limited amount of tournaments compared to her peers, so for her to be rated as high as she is with a limited amount of events shows what her potential can be. I feel like Sena is a great fit for myself and Stefan's (Naughton) style of coaching, she is without question an offensive player but she is also very athletic which allows her to play defense when necessary. Stefan and I feel really fortunate to bring in someone of Sena's level to Louisville, she just needs to learn how to structure her points better and become a little more consistent, which she will. She has a chance to be as good as anyone that has played here."
Suswam is also five star recruit whose highest tennisrecruiting.net ranking was No. 59. The 2012 High School Tennis MVP was also a four-time sportsmanship award winner as well as an Outstanding Character Award winner.
"She is going to thrive in the college environment" said Beckham. "The freshman class we have now is the best class that has ever signed with Louisville and to follow it up with someone as skilled as Sena is really exciting. The ACC is the best tennis conference in the country and Sena is the type of player that we need to compete and be successful!"
