GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Louisville's Elisa Garcia has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week along with Wake Forest's Anna Kozniuk.
Garcia (Santiago, Chile) was instrumental in both of Louisville's wins over ranked opponents. The junior midfielder scored the second goal of the game as the Cardinals withstood a late attack to defeat No. 4 Duke 2-1 on Friday. On Sunday against No. 15 Michigan, Garcia assisted the game-tying goal with five minutes remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Louisville went on to defeat the Wolverines 2-1 in the second extra period.
Garcia becomes the second UofL player to earn the league's weekly honor. Senior Mallory Mason was named ACC Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 23.
The fifth-ranked Cardinals (10-2) are currently second in ACC standings with a 3-1 record in league play. They will return to action on Saturday when they travel to No. 13 Syracuse (8-3, 0-3) in an ACC matchup.
