SAAC Partners with the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies
October 31, 2014 | General
Each year the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) selects a Charity of Choice. After choosing the charity, student-athletes coordinate with the organization on some of their major events and also provide two monetary donations to help with organizational needs. This year SAAC selected the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies.
On Tuesday, October 28, 2014, the Kids Pediatrics Center hosted the annual Fall Festival for their participants. From handing out candy to telling spooky stories to painting pumpkins - UofL student-athletes had a fun-filled evening helping out at the KIDS Center.
Accompanied by student-athletes from women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, track and field; Shannon Sloss from field hockey said "It was a lot of fun! The kids were adorable. It was very exciting to help them and make them smile!"
The KIDS Pediatrics Center is a multidisciplinary treatment center for children with developmental delays and/or disabilities. It has been serving infants through young adults up to the age of twenty-one for the past 50 year. Each week they see over 300 children, from infants to young adults, facing challenges such as autism, Down syndrome, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy. Participants receive physical, occupational and speech/language therapies to help better their daily needs.
One of their upcoming major events is the 12th Annual Holiday Fashion where the kids will get the chance to shine. Some walk, some will roll, but all are given the opportunity to shine in front of friends and families. The fashion show will be held Saturday November 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door and the center would love to see the public as well as friends and family go and support them on their big day.
