Women's Basketball Hosts Memphis on Sunday

The fifth ranked Louisville women's basketball will host Memphis on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU. It can also be heard live on the Cards Radio with Matt Andrews and Adrienne Johnson, carried locally on WKRD 790 AM.
Louisville extended its winning streak to 12 games with a 93-52 win over Houston on Tuesday. Although another slow start for the Cardinals, they outscored Houston 55-23 in the second half to bring home the win. Shoni Schimmel, who was named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason list last week, led the Cards with 25 points and eight rebounds. Asia Taylor finished with 16 points, Emmonnie Henderson finished with 14 points, and Bria Smith rounded out the top scorers with 13 points. Smith also dished out eight assists and pulled down seven rebounds.
The Cardinals have an overall record of 19-1 and a conference record of 7-0. Schimmel leads the team in scoring with 17.6 points per game. Hammond ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points. She also leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 boards per game. Smith rounds out the top scorers 10.0 points per game.
Memphis enters Sunday's game with an overall record of 10-9 and a 3-4 record in the conference play. The Tigers fell 83-49 to top ranked Connecticut on Wednesday. Freshman guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran led Memphis with 12 points. Sophomore forward Asianna Fuqua-Bey scored six of the team's first seven points in the paint. She finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Ariel Hearn leads the team in scoring with 17.8 points per game. Wilder-Cochran ranks second on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game. Rounding out the top scorers is Fuqua-Bey with 8.4 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game.
Memphis leads the series 23-21 over Louisville. The Cardinals have won four of the last five meetings with the Tigers.
The game is National Girl and Women in Sports Day. Former University of Louisville female athletes will be in attendance along with former women's basketball alumni. It is also Girl Scout Day, with a special event for the troops prior to the game at noon.
