Women's Golf Begins Fall Season on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON,IND. -- The University of Louisville women's golf team opens the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the IU Fall Kickoff in Noblesville, Ind. at Purgatory Golf Cub.
The single-day, 36-hole tournament will play on the par-72, 6,331-yard course. Along with the Cardinals, golfers from Notre Dame, Purdue, DePauw, Indiana State, Louisville, Youngstown State, Xavier, Cincinnati, IUPUI and host Indiana will participate in the event.
The Cardinals will send two teams to the tournament, a red team and a black team. The Louisville red team will consist of Laura Restrepo at the top spot, followed by Emily Haas, Katie Petrino, Haley Andreas and freshman Emily Kurey. The black team will consist of Tara Lyons at the top spot followed by Meghan Theiss, freshman Louise Oxner, Sara Karlsson and freshman Shannon Gramley.
The Cardinals will begin the 2013-14 season with six returners and four newcomers. Haas led the Cardinals last season with a 74.5 stroke average. Lyons ranked second with a 75.9 stroke average. Restrepo ranked third on the team with an average of 76.3. Petrino ranked fourth with a stroke average of 76.8.
Karlsson finished last season with a 78.5 stroke average while Theiss finished with a 79.5 average. Louisville also welcomes Arizona transfer Andreas along with freshmen Kurey, Oxner and Gramley.
This weekend's tournament is the start of a six-event fall slate for the Cardinals. They will host the Cardinal Cup on Sept. 16-17 at the Cardinal Club. before heading west to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Mercedes Benz Women's Collegiate Sept. 20-23.
The final three events of the fall are the Windy City Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 19-20, and the Alamo Invitational on Oct. 27-29.
